L’CHAIM TO HERBS

Herbs and spices are very valuable to boost the immune system and preserve good health. Most middle eastern cultures utilize a lot of herbs in cooking.  We should try to introduce more herbs and spices into our foods.

For example, fresh thyme, fresh oregano, fresh basil and rosemary all have tremendous health benefits and provide many vitamins and minerals.

Dried herbs and spices are also great.

When cooking vegetables, bean dishes, or even meat or chicken, add spices: curry, cumin, turmeric, sumac…..or if you like the Italian spices try oregano, parsley, basil, thyme etc.     When you utilize spices correctly, they add flavor, help to minimize using too much salt, and they have warming or cooling properties , depending on the type of herb they are and where they grow.

Hot peppers are beneficial too and help to open sinuses and relieve congestion.

So don’t be afraid to experiment with herbs. They have great value to health and to adding flavor and body to your meals.  L’chaim to herbs!
